NSW EPA Bin Trim Equipment Rebates Program

Biofeed and NSW Bin Trim Equipment Rebates

Eligible NSW businesses may access up to $50,000 in rebate support

Rebate support may be available for suitable Biofeed projects

The programme helps eligible NSW organisations reduce waste, increase recycling and improve resource recovery through practical on-site equipment and technology.

For businesses that generate significant food waste, Biofeed may provide a strong pathway. By processing food waste on site, Biofeed can help reduce food waste going to landfill, improve source separation, reduce contamination and support more efficient food waste recovery.

Eligibility is assessed by the NSW EPA, and approval must be received before equipment is ordered, purchased, leased or installed.

A practical rebate pathway for food waste generators

Food waste can be one of the heaviest, messiest and most expensive waste streams for commercial sites to manage. For hospitality venues, supermarkets, food service businesses, schools, hospitals, aged care facilities and other high-volume operations, improving food waste handling can deliver both environmental and operational benefits.

Biofeed is designed to process commercial food waste on site into a pumpable organic slurry. This can reduce the number of food waste bins required on site, improve hygiene and odour control, reduce manual handling and support a more efficient collection process.

Where the project meets the NSW EPA requirements, Biofeed may be suitable for Bin Trim rebate support.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for rebate support, the project and applicant must meet the NSW EPA’s current eligibility requirements.

Eligible applicants generally need to have a commercial and industrial waste service at a site in NSW, a valid ABN and one or more full-time employees in NSW.

The business must complete a Bin Trim waste assessment using the Bin Trim app or a trained Bin Trim assessor. The project must help reduce food waste going to landfill, improve recovery of food waste, reduce contamination or improve service efficiency and costs.

Biofeed equipment must not be ordered, purchased, leased or installed before the rebate application is approved by the NSW EPA.

How it works under a Cross-Hire Model

Biofeed can support flexible adoption models where the customer is the end-user and rebate applicant.

Under a cross-hire model, the customer completes the Bin Trim waste assessment and applies for the rebate. The customer must receive NSW EPA approval before the Biofeed system is ordered, leased or installed.

The processed organic output must be collected by an appropriate organic waste collection service.

Important notes

Rebates must be claimed by the end-user customer, and eligibility is assessed by the NSW EPA.

Equipment must not be ordered, purchased, leased or installed before rebate approval. Lease arrangements may be eligible, subject to the NSW EPA’s funding rules and approval process.

Biofeed is well suited for food waste generators such as retail, hospitality, food service, supermarkets, schools, hospitals, aged care facilities and other commercial food waste sites.

Biofeed can also support cost-sharing and leasing models, helping accelerate adoption where the customer and project meet EPA requirements.
